Liberty City Arts presents “My Place of Clear Water”

A reference to the opening line of Seamus Heaney’s poem, Anahorish, the “first hill in the world where springs washed into the shiny grass,” My Place of Clear Water is a love letter you’re welcome to read.

In this concert, music by Missy Mazzoli, Kate Soper, Tom Cipullo, and Jake Heggie, weaves together historic and contemporary poets Hildegard von Bingen, John Milton, Emily Dickenson, and Laura Morefield, among others. Recital curator Rachel DiBlasio follows the thread of the poetic text, examining connections to place, to body, and to the shelters we build inside our own hearts.

My Place of Clear Water is performed by pianist Sirapat Jittapirom, cellist Tom Kraines, mezzo-soprano Rachel DiBlasio, soprano Melanie Culhane, and soprano Megnot Toggia. This performance is sung in English, French, and Latin. Lyrics and translations are provided.
